-:- History of the formation of Kathmandu valley.

Thousands of years ago there was a lake inhabitant of  mighty serpant's where in the middle of the lake was a huge lotus with thousand of petals sowed by Bipashwi Tathagata ( Buddha ) with a beautiful blue flame arised from it makes it even more astonished.

When the saints and sadhus discovered the lotus by their meditation power they travelled far from to worship the flower which made the lake sacred site for pilgrims. Among them when Manjusri  (Wenshu - chinese name) was meditating at the sacred mountain Wu Tai Shan of China got a vision of the flower.

Manjusri

He came to visit the flower to worship it. He saw the flower was in the middle of the lake but his desire was to be near by the flower to pay homage. So he rised his holy sword named Chandrahrasa and cut down the mountain ( gorge at Chovar) in one swoop. All the water flowed out, the lake was drained which formed a valley now named Kathmandu. This is the valley which was settled by Manjusri himself establishing a city called Manjupatan now known as Majipa making Dharmakara king of city  and taught the citizens different kinds of arts, crafts, farming, music and dance. This is why Kathmandu valley has its own unique culture the technique of their farming is far above the farmers outside valley and the music, food recipes, arts, architecture, crafts, temples, pagodas, chaityas even the masterplan of the city is rich, different and unavailable outside the valley. So the inhabitants of Kathmandu 'Newars' worship Manjusri as the god of knowledge and craftsmanship  similitude to goddess Saraswoti. They also followed the religion (Buddhism) granted by Manjusri.
